Calorie Restriction
Time Restricted Eating(TRE), Early Time Restricted Feeding, Circadian Rhythm Eating, Intermittent Fasting (IF)…it all still ends up to being about calorie restriction, aka DIETING.
From bariatric M.D. Yoni Freedhoff writing on “Early Time Restricted Feeding”….“…people can endure all sorts of dietary interventions over 14 weeks, the outcomes of which, considering we’re discussing a chronic condition and the decades and decades of research demonstrating no diet to be superior in the long run, should not interest or excite anyone. All the more so when the intervention required involves suffering of any sort (physical, emotional, or mental).”
Note: You can find loads of research and podcasts about IF and TRE - one place to start is with our friends at Examine.com

Careers in Dietetics
When you were a nutrition student did you think that the majority of jobs for dietitians were in school nutrition and food service or clinical nutrition doing medical nutrition therapy? Do people automatically think because you’re a dietitian that you spend all your time cooking? When there are office parties or family gatherings does everyone expect you to cook or bake because, ‘You’re a dietitian’?
While the majority of dietitians work in clinical settings, there are a variety of options for dietitians, and many may have nothing to do with food preparation, or working in hospitals.
Some dietitians start out in clinical and then move into different areas of nutrition like public health or retail. Others specialize in eating disorders, bariatrics, diabetes, renal disease, dialysis, pediatrics, or oncology. Some RDs never work with patients, because they enjoy doing research, writing, teaching or working in marketing or doing recipe or product development. For a glimpse of all the different types of jobs dietitians can do check out this information from Nutrition Jobs
Compensation for Dietitians
One of the big questions nutrition students often have is, ‘How much do dietitians make?’ Obviously, there’s no set answer to this since it depends on where you work (location), what field you work in, what you do, if you manage people, how long you’ve been working (tenure) and additional degrees or certifications. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that dietitians and nutritionists make a median salary of $61,650 each year or $29.64 per hour. This is often less than other health care and medical professionals.
In our Build Up Dietitians - JOBS group individuals can post jobs for free. All we require is that the job post include a link/URL to the position and that the salary/hourly range be listed. If you are a headhunter/agency or placement firm, there is a charge to post. For more information email: builduprdns@gmail.com
Which careers in dietetics pay the most? The highest paid positions in dietetics are usually those that are: business sector working for/in food industry, consultant RDs, RD officers in the military, retail (supermarket) dietitians, dietitians in supervisory positions in food service, as well as RDs in public relations and marketing.
Chemistry and Cholesterol #BlackHistoryMonth
“Daly's early research included studies of the effects of cholesterol on the mechanics of the heart, the effects of sugars and other nutrients on the health of arteries, and the breakdown of the circulatory system as a result of advanced age or hypertension. Later she studied how proteins are produced and organized in the cell.”
