Stranger Than Fiction?: CDC approves Herbalife to Run DPP
Would you describe Herbalife as a “premiere health and wellness company”?
Not too long ago we were alerted by one of our followers that the multi-level marketing company, Herbalife, had been recognized/certified by the CDC to do a Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). If this news is shocking to you, you’re not alone and apparently many in the dietetics community and diabetes education space have been surprised at this as well.
Note: You don’t have to be a dietitian or even a certified diabetes educator to run a DPP. To learn more about the DPP check out this link: National Diabetes Prevention Program | Diabetes | CDC
We wrote to the CDC to express our concern about Herbalife running a Diabetes Prevention Program (given the fact that they’re an MLM better known for selling supplements that has paid out millions in fines to the FTC) and the response was: “If a participant has a concern about the delivery of their National DPP Lifestyle Change Program, a case can be submitted to the National DPP Customer Service Center at https://nationaldppcsc.cdc.gov . Participant names are not needed, but you may detail the specifics of the occurrence. The DPRP has a quality review process.”
Bottom Line: So, we could try and mobilize and do a petition about this…try and get some media coverage or just sit back and wait to see if clients complain about it. What do you think?

Petition!
I think a petition to send to CDC would be great. I'd be afraid that media coverage will increase exposure and introduction to Herbalife. No publicity is bad publicity..........
