Prenatal Vitamins: Buyer Beware
Many of us may take it for granted that all prenatal vitamins are created equal and that they all contain the amounts of vitamins and minerals they list on the label…and that there are no heavy metals in those vitamins, right?
You might be surprised to learn this may not be exactly true.
Have a listen to this 7-minute podcast with the Government Accounting Office (GAO) where they analyzed 12 different popular brands of prenatal vitamins.
U.S. GAO - We Tested Prenatal Supplements to See What's in Them--Here's What We Found
“…Researchers discovered that 11 of the 12 had at least one tested nutrient that deviated from the amount claimed on the product label.
Overall, the GAO found a lot of variety in nutrient levels from one supplement to another. That means pregnant women might be consuming considerably less or more nutrients than they expect when they use these products.”
