It’s That Time of Year
Are you getting prepared for the “New Year New You” and diet questions? When people ask you, and you know that they will, can you talk about health, lifestyle, activity and making sustainable changes and not about depravation, denial, and dieting?
Herbalife: Hiding in Plain Sight
A while back one of our followers mentioned that there were these “nutrition clubs” that were actually a front for Herbalife (the multi-level-marketing company). NY dietitian Laura Ligos (aka The Sassy Dietitian) spotted this in 2019. Cut the B.S.: Herbalife Nutrition Clubs - Laura Ligos Nutrition (thesassydietitian.com)
Here’s your task for today: Google, “nutrition club near me” and see what comes up and let us know which ones you think are Herbalife ( check out the infographic below for some clues). Will you find one shop or several? Next try and figure out the nutrition of the shakes and teas they sell.
A special thanks to Ceara Manchester aka @MLMombie, for creating an infographic on this. For the original infographics: Herbalife Infographics - Mombie #Anti-MLM (mombie-antimlm.com)
What’s the Bottom Line (& why should you care?):
1. Despite the name, these “nutrition clubs” seem to be focused on weight loss with contests and games aimed at customer weight loss as they become part of the club, and buy the teas and shakes, often showing “before/after” photos and selling based on testimonials.
2. It is often not easy to find or see the nutrition information on their shakes/smoothies or teas.
3. They are essentially a front for sales of Herbalife products and a way to recruit for the multi-level marketing company.
4. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, many of these “clubs” are sponsoring school teams and providing these products to children.
5.And as we mentioned in our last newsletter - Herbalife has been approved by the CDC to offer DPP (Diabetes Prevention Program).
Here's the CDC's DPP response to our query on this:
"Thank you for your message. Herbalife's National DPP lifestyle change program is delivered using the CDC-developed Prevent T2 curriculum, along with other CDC-approved materials. In alignment with CDC recognition guidelines, the promotion of products or services does not occur within the delivery of the lifestyle change program.
Sincerely,
National DPP Customer Service Center"
