Spotting Pseudoscience
Occasionally we'll get asked about a website and whether it’s an example of quackery and pseudoscience. Sometimes these websites even belong to dietitians or MD’s…and sometimes students message us about their nutrition professors, “…there is mainly just one professor who pretty heavily advocates for microbiome testing….I have wondered about it because the studies I’ve found in my own research do typically acknowledge that “more research needs to be done in this area” before drawing conclusions about the microbiome.” (BT)
The bingo card has just a few of the words/phrases that may indicate the person is not practicing evidence-based nutrition or medicine but is more about pseudoscience, quackery and misinformation for money.
We’re glad that students like “BT” are critical thinkers and question these sorts of things and are on the lookout for pseudoscience….we all should be AND we should be willing to speak up about this.
