Q1: What’s it like to be a US dietitian practicing in GERMANY?
Answer: “…When I first started my practice, I was worried about finding clients since I am an English-speaking RD living in a German speaking country. Living in a large city, I was pleasantly surprised by how many international people are seeking nutrition help, and how difficult it has been for people to find a dietitian who understands their nutrition challenges. I primarily see folks who suffer from eating disorders and disordered eating, and it's been an eye-opening experience to provide them with care that is not always so accessible in Germany.”
Q2: What do you think is different about being a dietitian in Germany compared to being in the US?
Answer: “…I have to invoice and manage my taxes differently (aka - more paperwork!)…. There is also a much smaller community of private practice dietitians here in Germany, which can feel a bit lonely at times. But I'm lucky to have a small but mighty community of practitioners who support one another in their work!”
Q3: What is your favorite German dish to eat or prepare?
Answer: “My favorite German dish is called Käsespätzle. It's a delicious dish made of egg noodles, cheese, and onions. It's also super simple to make!”

😡Admin Rant: From Our Facebook Page
It’s always fun (*sarcasm) to watch holistic/functional/integrative doctors/practitioners or influencers try and throw dietitians under the 🚍bus.
Usually, they start by spelling our profession “dietician”🙄 - which is incorrect…
Then they make sweeping statements that start out with “all dieticians” (as if we ALL do the same thing) - some of us don’t even work with patients - we do research👨🏽🔬, marketing, recipe development👨🏽🍳…
and then they’ll make further stupid generalizations like: ‘dieticians just promote the Food Guide Pyramid’
....which is ridiculous since we haven’t even used the FGP since 2011!
Or that we tell everyone to eat the same way - when of course we take into consideration so many things…age, ability to chew/swallow, culture, cooking ability, income, allergies, health conditions/illnesses or food preferences.
So, despite the fact that dietitians have a degree in Human Nutrition, do a 1200-hour(edit: 1000hr) internship, pass a board exam, do continuing education and have actual work experience counseling people in nutrition…those holistic/integrative/functional medicine practitioners & influencers ( who often seem to all be super eager to sell supplements💊) think they know SO much more about food and nutrition than “dieticians”…and when it comes to nutrition, they don’t.
