Their podcast: “Nutrition for Mortals”
“Jen and I have been very close friends for over a decade, and we really thrive as creative partners.”
Q#1: Why did you decide to start a podcast on nutrition?
'“Jen and I started the show because we feel strongly that life is too damn short to spend your time and attention worrying about your food choices—which is why this became the tagline of the show. We wanted to share nutrition information that was for everyone, not a show about “optimizing” your health or crushing your health goals, but about better understanding nutrition more broadly and more inclusively…”
Q#2: What's the most difficult thing about doing a podcast?
“It is a surprising amount of work to put together an episode from start to finish. We’re not making the type of show where we just hit record and banter. We have very clearly defined objectives for each episode and so it’s quite a process to see those goals realized as an organized, well-research, and edited show….”
Q#3: Which podcast has gotten the most listens/comments?
“While our episodes about diet culture tend to spark the most discussion online, interestingly, …. Our most listened to episode is called “The Great Saturated Fat Debate” where Jen covered the history and science surrounding saturated fat intake and health risks. Runner up…our episode titled, “No Seriously, How Much Protein Do We Need?"
I think this interest in fundamental nutrition questions shows that there is a hunger out there for reliable nutrition information. Our listeners have shared that they really appreciate that we’re providing both evidence-based information and non-diet, weight-inclusive information. Unfortunately, so much of the nutrition communication we see today is colored by bias in the form of weight stigma or economic interests. While Jen and I have our own biases of course, we’re extremely careful to make sure that our show is as inclusive and free of conflicts of interest as possible.”
