🗣️Don’t Stop Speaking Up
🙏🏽Please, stay in the game… don’t stop speaking up. Don’t let misinformation and fearmongering win.

Please consider taking our short survey (will take about 5 minutes) by going HERE. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card. We’ll be doing a drawing for TWO (2) $25 Amazon gift cards on 7/15/25.
👩🏽⚕️Statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics
“At a time when there’s confusion in Washington, D.C., around vaccine recommendations, the American Academy of Pediatrics continues to do what it’s always done: use science to develop guidelines to improve the health of all children. For decades, the AAP has published its own childhood immunization schedule based on these guiding principles, and it will continue to do so. Families and pediatricians know they can trust the resources published by the AAP.”
So, that’s a pretty strong statement from a member association of medical professionals….what about member associations that represent DIETITIANS and NUTRITION professionals? 🤔
🤪RFK Jr Recommends Wearables—What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
From RFK Jr: “…We think that wearables are a key to the MAHA agenda, Making America Healthy Again ... my vision is that every American is wearing a wearable within four years….It's a way of people can take control over their own health ... they can see what food is doing to their glucose levels, their heart rates and a number of other metrics as they eat it," he added.” From Reuters - for article click HERE
What could possibly go wrong? Here’s what some of our community had to say:
Becca S. “This would be a nightmare in the eating disorder field.”
Elizabeth H. “Meanwhile insurance won't cover for diabetes patients unless they're on insulin...can we work on getting CGM coverage for diabetes and prediabetes?!”
Allison G. “What a joke. Hopefully there won’t be a further shortage for individuals who actually need a CGM to manage their diabetes.”
Leslie H. “Talk about being out of touch with society. People/families are trying to put food on the table while working long hours. But he wants to know their glucose levels from the fruits and vegetables they don't always have access to.”
And here’s some perspective about psychological and emotional issues with wearables, “The hidden risks of wearable tech” - by Oona Hanson
“…These devices can warp someone’s relationship with food, exercise, and their body. In addition, a focus on numerical data can start to take up more and more space in a young person’s sense of self and even self-worth. A fixation on “closing rings” or following rigid nutrition goals can crowd out time and energy for doing all the other things that could enrich their lives….
…Everyone with a smart watch or Oura Ring isn’t doomed to develop an eating disorder or completely lose touch with their instincts. But it’s worth considering the hidden costs that come with kids and young adults missing out on learning what their bodies need and enjoy…
…it’s not that tracking devices and apps are universally problematic. As with just about anything we interact with daily—food, technology, you name it—it’s not that the thing itself is inherently good or bad; what matters most is our relationship to that thing.”

🎙️Podcast Pick: NY Times “The Daily”:
Breaking Down the Massive Cuts to Science Funding
Research funding cuts because of key, now forbidden, words or because research was being done on/for specific populations and races. Funding cuts because researchers represent minority groups….do you think this is ok?
At this point, when RFK recommends ANYTHING, I'm viewing it with suspicion. He's shown time and again that science does not drive his recommendations, so I'm not sure that this would be different. Indeed, he seems driven by things AROUND sound science. As RDNs, we need to do what we're professionally and ethically bound to do: speak from a position of sound, credible, and evidence-based science. We probably just need to do it more, as staying silent one these issues just allows all the noise to dominate.
Thanks for referencing my piece. Quite a week for wearables!
