💩The Dirty Work of the Dirty Dozen
Despite so many things going on in nutrition like a hugely flawed MAHA report; cancelled nutrition research; cuts in funding affecting farms and schools; and threatened cuts in SNAP, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has still chosen to release their annual fearmongering about food report, aka The Dirty Dozen/Clean 15. EWG’s Pseudo Science Legacy Continues - Safe Fruits and Veggies
The annual “fearmigration” came a bit later this year, usually we see the EWG (Environmental Working Group") release their annual fear-based lists known as the “Dirty Dozen” and the “Clean 15” in early Spring…but this year June? 🤔Hmmm…. why the delay? Busy trying to gather more organic marketing money?
A reminder, from Australian dietitian, Danielle Shine, “…Sad to think that so many people believe the EWG is a trustworthy source.”
If you’re looking to find resources to counter the “Dirty Dozen”, do a search on the Build Up Dietitians Facebook page. You can also find info in previous newsletters: (2024)

🧪New Celiac Disease Test?
This could be a big deal for individuals trying to determine whether they have celiac (coeliac) disease and now have to continue eating gluten before they are tested to make sure the test is accurate.
Landmark test for coeliac disease promises to take away the pain of diagnosis | WEHI
“New clinical research published in the high-impact journal Gastroenterology shows a game-changer blood test for gluten-specific T-cells can detect coeliac disease, even when no gluten has been eaten….the team was thrilled to find the test could detect the condition with up to 90% sensitivity and 97% specificity – even in patients following a strict gluten free diet…”
🤔Question: CLINICAL group
This was a question posed in our Build Up Dietitians CLINICAL group:
Anonymous - “I work for the VA. The most challenging part of my job is distress and uncertainty caused by the current presidential administration.”
Jordan G. - “Lack of respect from MDs/RNs.”
Anonymous - “I work for WIC so I’m constantly battling misinformation. It’s gotten way worse in these past 6 months. Short staffing and budget cuts are also super challenging right now.”
Susan G. - “Lack of respect to our knowledge and skills. Getting consults for "wants to discuss food preferences" is still occurring after 20+ years of practice.”
👨🏽⚕️M.D’s and Nutrition Education
Build Up Dietitians friend Katie Suleta, DHSc, MPH writes:
"What if instead of a nutrition class, we trained physicians to understand the basics of what other healthcare professionals and practitioners do? For example, many physicians are not aware of the difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian. Many physicians make referrals for nutrition and dietetics expertise, but it seems relevant that they should know how to find a qualified professional in the field. Hello, registered dietitians!"

🤑Is SALARY Disclosure Important?
This question was posed in our Build Up Dietitians JOBS group and got over 60 responses in 2 days. If you are posting or sharing a job opening at your workplace or your HR department is posting a position and it’s not getting many applicants…is it because there is no salary/hourly rate included in the post?
