💡Spotlight: 2️⃣ Questions for Dietitian Ellie Wilson

(Ellie is a group moderator for our Build Up Dietitians CAREER ADVICE group)

Question #1: What do you do as a dietitian?

Answer: “I am a retail RDN in the Northeast and have been learning data and negotiation skills throughout my career. I have also had a role in food policy in my state (NY).”

Question #2: What nutrition topic or question in the CAREERS group really made an impression on you or has stuck with you?

Answer: – “I am not sure I have one post, but the themes of being poorly valued, struggling to negotiate, and thoughts on how to prepare for those discussions stand out. I try to empower BUD members to use clinical or related business data and language to negotiate and engage in “how you investing in this role and my career” dialogue – what are clinical pathways or career ladders for the role, how is the organization evaluating the role of nutrition to drive better outcomes, have they done a market analysis and noted the state stats on projected job growth to inform improving payment rates? I really struggled with this myself way back when, and given the visibility of nutrition in policy now, there is no better time to facilitate change for individuals and the profession.”
