💡Spotlight: 2️⃣ Questions for Dietitian Bec McDorman

Overlooking Eklutna Lake in Chugach State Park, Alaska on the lands of the Dena’ina Ełnena and Dënéndeh people.

Bec McDorman MS, RDN, LD, FAND is a dietitian based in Alaska and she moderates our Build Up Dietitians Continuing Education Group and is also a member and group expert in other groups. Bec has a weekly newsletter where she shares free and low-cost CPEUs.

Q1: What do you do as a dietitian?

“I work as the Regional Registered Dietitian for NMS, an Alaska Native owned corporation based in Anchorage, AK. My department provides food services for 6 units around the state that run the gamut of healthcare: patient housing, behavioral health, inpatient, skilled nursing, assisted living and detox. I work remotely most of the time, with quarterly travel to each of the units. I love my job!”

Q2: What's one thing you've learned or something that's surprised you about the Build Up Dietitians Facebook groups?

“…I have been surprised to find out that even dietitians can become keyboard warriors when it comes to some topics. It’s interesting to see what people pick as their hill to die on, so to speak. But I’ve also seen an outpouring of support from people in the groups wanting to help when someone posts a question or conundrum.”
