💡Spotlight: Questions for Tara Laguerta, MS, RDN, LD
Q1. What made you want to become a dietitian?
“My mom was a significant inspiration in my decision to become a dietitian. She and my grandmother struggled with eating disorders, but my mom was determined to break the cycle in our family by fostering a healthier relationship with food and dieting. So growing up my mom's positive attitude toward body image and food provided a solid foundation for my own approach to nutrition. My passion for cooking, mindful eating and sustainable nutrition grew throughout my education, and I still love sharing these principles with my patients today.”
Q2: When did you start creating products for dietitians and what are some that you're selling?
“Throughout my education and career, I've been the go-to person for creating beautiful patient handouts, workbooks, and signs. After stepping down from a high-stress management position in February this year, I realized I no longer wanted to limit my designs to my employers. Crafting these products is a form of self-care, and it’s even more rewarding now that I’ve launched my 'Dietitian Merch' brand and get to share my creations with colleagues and friends. So far I've published multiple notebooks, a coloring book and my most popular item, The Ultimate Dietitian Activity Book, on Amazon (order it HERE). I've also started creating shirt and lunch bag designs available at my Printify Storefront. It's my favorite side passion that I hope to continue for years to come!

The “Success” of Food Policy in Chile to Fight Obesity - ConscienHealth
“Eight years ago, Chile implemented a sweeping food policy initiative to fight obesity. Many public health advocates quickly endorsed these policies….Chile did what a lot of health policy advocates are seeking for other countries to do. They targeted ultra-processed foods high in sugar, salt, and fat, taxed it, put simple warning labels on it, and imposed restrictions on its sales and marketing...(but) a new analysis from the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization concludes:
“Chile’s food regulations were not followed by a sustained decline in obesity in primary- and secondary-school students.”
