🙄How RFK Jr Really Feels About RDs
In case you had any illusions that RFK Jr is likely to consult with RDs - apparently this is what he thinks about the profession - since he reposted this on “X”. Hope the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is paying attention.
(Edit: The account that posted this- David P. - is a real account on “X”- there has been some concern that the RFK Jr account that retweeted the ChapGPT image is not, so we have edited this post.)
BTW - David apparently can’t spell (“Registeredd”), is into body shaming, is ignorant of the fact that the Food Guide Pyramid hasn’t been used since 2011, doesn’t know seed oils are safe and that dietitians don’t necessarily think meat is “dangerous” …but he at least gets a point for the apples🍏🍎.
(thanks Christine L. for sending this image to us.)
🚫MAHA is not about Health
If you know anything about nutrition research, Dr. Kevin Hall at NIH is a name that may be familiar to you. If you had any hope that MAHA was really interested in health...this should settle that illusion.
MAHA Just Cost the NIH Its Star Nutrition Researcher
“…many people, myself included, have held out some hope for MAHA, and Kennedy’s ability to focus the country’s attention on the root causes of diet-related disease. Hall’s departure is a sad confirmation that Kennedy is unwilling to invest in nutrition science, and more than willing to exile leading nutrition researchers upon whose work his success depends….”

🌍Substack: Welcome to Planet Cancer
by Tori Marsh
Welcome to Planet Cancer - by Tori Marsh
“…On Planet Cancer your life isn’t your own anymore. You lose control, suspended in a constant state of limbo, filled with uncertainty. Life outside of the diagnosis seems trivial. You stop caring about your job, your to-do lists, or the small annoyances that used to take up your time. All that matters now is survival. You’re stuck in purgatory, unsure of what the future holds, and suddenly grappling with questions that feel too big to answer: What will life look like in a year? Where will we live? How do we navigate this with our toddler? Should I stay at work? Take leave? Is our insurance enough? Do we put him on a plant-based diet? Is he with the right doctor? Has it spread? How do we afford this? How do we survive?…”

💩Article: On Gut Health
Why Is Everyone Talking About Gut Health? - Eater by Amy McCarthy
“…What is most exhausting about much of the gut health sentiment is that it is intrinsically tied to diet culture. Products that promise to “minimize bloat” are products that are promising to make your body smaller. Some green juice cleanses insist that they can help you lose as much as five pounds of digestive waste in just a few days, a decidedly disordered approach. At its core, the gut health craze is about weight loss, not health. The brands and the influencers don’t care about your gut health or your digestion. They care about locking you into a cycle of being obsessed with your digestion so that they can sell you a product that promises to fix it.
It is true that, on some level, we do have to talk about poop. It’s a fact of life, and there have been very real strides made in terms of awareness about digestive conditions like Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome, both of which have been stigmatized due to their connection to unpleasant digestive symptoms like gas and diarrhea. But there has to be some middle ground between not shaming those folks for their bodily functions and a world in which brands feel totally okay asking me whether or not I’ve taken a shit today in an Instagram poll….”
The RD started pack image is so insulting and infuriating. It really feels like we’re living in a twilight zone.
@AmyMcCarthy is spot on -- and she delivers her points humorously. Yes, she's a bit blunt, but when you're talking poop, gas, and all things gut-related, some levity is warranted. Most memorable line: "They care about locking you into a cycle of being obsessed with your digestion so that they can sell you a product that promises to fix it."
