🐀LinkedIn: “Rat Snacking”
🐀“Rat Snacking”… this has got to be the worst term🤮 …evidently it was popularized on TikTok in 2023 and was still being used in 2024. It refers to
“… depraved food combinations — specifically, those food combinations that we secretly shovel into our mouths when no one else is looking…”. “Depraved” might be a strong word…maybe just “weird” or “random” combinations would be better.
Ugh…really? Will we see this term disappear in 2025? What do YOU think?

🗣️ Are they making absolute statements?
🚫🍞 Are they demonizing one specific food?
🎠 Are they a one-trick pony?
🆚 Do they position themselves against the general consensus?
🎰 Do they rely too heavily on their own experience?
🔬 Do they use catchphrases and pseudoscientific terms?
💸 Are they plugging commercial products?
🎓 Are their credentials relevant to the field of nutrition?
⚖️ Do they use false equivalence? (“Smoothies are as bad as Coke because of the sugar.”)

🛍Build Up Store
We’d like to start a store on our website with items made/created by (for?) RDs/NDTR. These could be spice mixes or socks….candles, candy or coloring books. If you are already making/selling something on Etsy, Amazon, or your own website, let us know. We would feature this on our website and also on our different social platforms at no charge. (We would work out an affiliate deal for items sold.) Write to us: builduprdns@gmail.com for more information.

🙋🏽♀️Question from Nutrition Support Group
(One of the best parts of our 17 private/closed groups is the opportunity to ask questions (even anonymously) and get answers from peers that may have more experience or exposure to a particular illness/disease or situation.)
Answers:
Helen W. “I usually ask the patient if they eat regular salt and are they able to eat out at restaurants etc. without any issues. The answer usually is yes. In South Africa all our table salt is routinely iodized: I work on the premise that the amount of iodine in our regular diet (containing iodized salt) is therefore in line with the amount of iodine in the standard Enteral feeds, if not higher.”
Whitney M. “Allergy to iodinated contrast medium, aka "iodine allergy," is NOT an allergy to iodide ion. It is also not the same thing as shellfish allergy (though of course they may have that as well). I would not worry about the tube feed formula at all.”
Jillian B. “I worked as a CT tech before becoming a dietitian. IV contrast iodine allergy is different than iodine in foods.”
Morales D. “No, it doesn't usually cross over to both forms. Many foods naturally have iodine in them and the patient likely eats them without issue. I've never held a tube feed for an iodine contrast allergy, and I've never had an issue.”

“There is a lack of evidence to support cross-reactivity between iodine-containing compounds in so called iodine-allergic individuals.”
