Blog: How to Prepare for Your Next Dietitian Interview — The RD Coach
Q#1: What was your career path to becoming a resume and career coach?
Answer: “In my role as a lead clinical dietitian, I helped with interviewing potential candidates, and I realized that our interview questions weren’t helping us find the best fit. My boss suggested that I complete a training program with HR and that catalyzed my interest in best practices for interviewing and hiring. Since then, I have interviewed over 400+ applicants, and I understand what it takes for a candidate to land a job offer. I started my career coaching business to help dietitians navigate the job search with confidence and clarity.”
Q#2: What's one thing you wish more dietitians knew about crafting a resume?
Answer: “Add in numbers and outcomes to your resume. For dietitians, this might look like the total number of clients you see a day or your total website hits from blog posts each month. Outcomes can be things like improvements in health behaviors or a decrease in food waste. Numbers show your impact, and they help you stand out from the competition.”
Q#3: What's one thing you wish all RD’s would do to prepare for a job interview?
Answer: “Master the art of storytelling…. Stories help you build an emotional connection with the hiring panel. Research suggests that stories lead to a shared experience and also make a longer lasting impression.”
