Functional Fictional Medicine

…RFK Jr’s buddy, Dr. Mark Hyman is the poster boy for Functional Medicine. Hyman, the same guy who talks a good ‘eat whole foods’ game while his website store sells pages of supplements.

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'The New York C Times @nytimes.com 1h Dr. Mark Hyman, a "functional medicine" proponent and longtime friend of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is finding powerful allies in his bid to treat disease with blood tests and supplements. His ideas could soon be peppered into federal health policy. www.nytimes.com www. Q#1: What do you like best about a dietitian? “I like being able to collaborate with other health care professionals to problem solve the best care for patients and clients. I've recently begun dipping my toes into private practice where I'm a little bit more independent. I get to work more closely and more often with clients to address their individual needs….”

Q#2: As a new moderator for the Pediatrics group...what do you wish more people understood about Pediatric nutrition? “If you’re going to pursue a career in pediatric nutrition, develop a tough skin. There are many children who get well, grow and go home, however, there are just as many who do not. Also, remember that parents are the experts on their children. You, as a registered dietitian, are consulting to provide the best outcomes.”

Q#3: What do you do for fun (when you're not being a dietitian)? “… I have always been a "foodie." I like trying recipes…. I love traveling with my husband (who is a guy-atitian - Stan Wilfong) whether it's day trips, weekend trips in Texas, trips across the United States, or to other countries. I enjoy exploring new cultures and new food experiences.

🙋🏽‍♀️Question of the Day

Asked in our CLINICAL group - a few of the answers:

Anatasia T. “I love the fact that I can learn so much from the medical standpoint.”

Johanna C. “I learn more and more every day in the clinical setting and feel like I’m “leveling up” when I develop interventions for a complex case that no one has encountered at my facility before. The interdisciplinary approach we have in our ICU empowers me to ask questions and always learn from each other. Aside from that, it’s definitely the patients. Oncology just hits different.”

Sharon B. “Being in a critical care role where I feel respected and heard. Opportunity to build a new department/transplant program. Getting to teach new RDs. Plus a steady paycheck, benefits, coworkers.”

Patricia P. “I personally loved the ICU because nutrition made a huge difference… it’s amazing to be part of a team that helps basically bring people back from the brink of death. It was awesome to see people recover and get better as the days went by. I loved doing rounds and learning something new every day.”

🤔Why Didn’t the DGAC Address UPF’s?
