🔎From Build Up Friend - Critikid

“PubMed is a valuable repository of scientific research, but it’s important to approach it critically; otherwise, it's confirmation bias heaven. Not all journals indexed there are equally reputable, and a single study doesn’t provide definitive answers. Always consider the broader body of evidence before drawing conclusions.” (Connect with Critikid HERE)

Q1: What has been your career/job title path as a dietitian and is it what you expected when you started your internship?

Answer: “I had no idea research could be a full-time dietitian career path until I began my master's degree. My first job as a dietitian was as a long-term care consultant. I worked in research and outpatient counseling as a student and tenured faculty for twenty years. In 2024 I created my own research and communications consulting company, TW Education.”

Q2: Why did you decide to start a newsletter?

Answer: “I heard from so many colleagues in nutrition that they didn't have time to look through the mountain of nutrition science published to figure out what was meaningful right now for their work with clients. I started the Nutrition Research Rundown to give them a reliable source about research results that don't always make news headlines but can be useful in daily work.”

Q3: What's one thing about nutrition research that you wished more dietitians realized/understood?

Answer: “Science needs registered dietitian nutritionists to be both scientists and science communicators! Dietitian training gives us a unique insight into community needs and priorities that other scientists don't always have. Dietitians are also better at communicating scientific results to the general public compared to influencers and scientists without media training.
