Q#1: What made you want to become a dietitian?
Answer: “I wanted to be a dietitian because I saw discrepancies regarding health within various demographics. When I first decided to change careers, I, unfortunately, had the healthism mindset and was set on telling people to fix their problems with "better eating," but now I am more aware of the socioeconomic factors, social determinants of health (SDoH), societal barriers, that can affect health and are out of the person's control. But overall, I wanted to help people and work in community nutrition, which I do now.”
Q#2: What's one food trend that concerns you?
Answer: “I am seeing the raw milk trend making a comeback (if you can even call it a comeback), and this concerns me. It is so dangerous, and it completely boggles my mind that people have forgotten or maybe don't realize why the pasteurization of foods exists, and the whole point is safety. I think that, overall, there is so much misinformation that can spread because of social media.”

Romi L. “A patient I’d been seeing for 5 years for anorexia wrote me a poem called “A Place to Find Nourishment.” I can’t even think about it without tearing up!”

And I turn and I'll look them right in the eye and I say "we are literally doing the opposite" and I've had a few clients give me cards on discharge saying "thank you for helping to literally save my life".
